Exploration Made Easy: Introducing the Permobil Explorer Mini

Date: April 7th, 12:00pm – 1:00pm EST

Speakers:

Dr. Teresa Plummer, PhD, OTR/L, ATP, CEAS, CAPS, Associate Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy at Belmont University

Jennith Bernstein, PT, DPT, ATP/SMS, Regional Clinical Education Manager Permobil, Inc

Overview: When providing a therapeutic intervention for our youngest clients, it is a well known that the earlier a child receives that intervention, the faster they can adapt, learn, and develop. The Permobil Explorer Mini is a developmental tool to assist in making this happen as quickly as possible. The Explorer Mini has age-appropriate seating components for postural support and a mid-line joystick to help initiate power mobility when appropriate. We invite you all to join Permobil and a special guest presenter, Teresa Plummer, PhD, OTR/L, ATP, CEAS, CAPS, to discuss the importance of the earliest intervention possible. We will also review the results and observations related to a pending manuscript of the validation work that Teresa has completed as well as the details on the specifications of the Explorer Mini and how our children, clients, patients, and students can utilize this exciting new technology.

In addition: GoToWebinar also works best in Google Chrome if you have that available.

Permobil Academy is hosting two free CEU events in April as part of our Virtual Learning Solutions Series. The CEUs are approved for Assistive Technology Professionals, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists*. Details are listed below for each course.

Beginner’s Guide to CRT: Power Mobility (0.1 CEU)

Date: April 21st, 3:00pm – 4:00pm EST

Course Overview:  This one-hour, live and virtual course is intended to facilitate clinicians’ and equipment suppliers’ understanding of how to be successful in the provision of power wheelchair (PWC) complex rehabilitation technology (CRT). In many settings, where time and resources are limited, the potential exists to overlook clients who may need CRT solutions, but are provided with basic equipment. When a client with long-term wheeled mobility needs is prescribed a product intended for short-term use, secondary complications can occur. This course is intended to promote best practice PWC CRT application for successful clinical outcomes using today’s technology. This course will utilize clinical examples to assist the clinical decision-making process about who needs CRT, how outcomes can be improved, and how to navigate the CRT provision landscape. Upon completion of this course, clinicians will have a better understanding of how to initiate referrals and recommend PWC CRT to optimize client outcomes.

NOTE: You will need a smart phone to be able to scan a QR code or a computer where you can pull up a web browser. Either method will serve as a Sign-In for this course. You MUST Sign-In and complete an assessment to receive your 0.1 CEU. At the end of the live course, a code will be provided for your assessment and instructions for your CEU certificate will be detailed.

Beginner’s Guide to CRT: Seating & Positioning (0.1 CEU)

Date: April 27th, 12:00pm – 1:00pm EST

Course Overview: This one-hour, live course is intended to facilitate clinicians’ and equipment suppliers’ understanding of how to be successful in the provision of best practice seating and positioning solutions for complex rehabilitation technology (CRT). In many settings, where time and resources are limited, the potential exists to provide low-end seating and positioning products versus what the client may truly need. This course is intended to be an overview to transitioning your practice from general use and standard equipment to the ideas of best practice tissue protection and proper postural support and positioning. This course will utilize clinical examples to assist the clinical decision-making process about client needs, how outcomes can be improved, and how to navigate the CRT provision landscape. Upon completion of this course, clinicians will have a better understanding of how to initiate referrals and recommend seating and positioning solutions for CRT to optimize client outcomes.
